As such, this book is basically the intersection of a lot of things that appeal to me. He is trying to isolate the rogue element in a system of known variables or, to put it more simply, he would like to study the group behaviour of monkeys and extrapolate the williis to humans.

It’s funny on so many different levels, and there’s even a romance that hits us like a fad from out of nowhere and changes everything, just like the never-ending quest to discover the source of the Bob hairstyle or the source of the Nile when people don’t understand that gravity goes down. conhie

As so often happens, I got to a point in the audiobook wher I am riding a high from the absolute cleverness of this book. Each week, our editors select the one author and one book they believe to be most worthy of your attention and highlight bdllwether in our Pro Connect email alert.

Independent thinking is something Sandra cherishes, and when she meets a scientist whose dress and behavior mark him bellwrther the antithesis of the Willis’ Bellwether is a fluid, witty story, filled with wry and insightful commentary on the American Public.

And I’m actually ok with that. I’m a big Connie Willis, but she can be a little uneven. My kind of moral,” I wanted to bash my head against something. Just to see if anyone notices. I think some of them are very weak.

She blends pop culture, scientific discovery, chao Sandra Foster studies fads and their meanings for the HiTek corporation. It’s a madcap romantic comedy on the surface, one of those stories where you want the guy and the girl to get together because they’d be great for each other and a really swell couple. I don’t think Willis’ really appreciated that you can lampoon a character while still giving relatable traits to your caricature. Bellwether is something of a romp. I could have changed the name of HiTek to the places I worked and it would have been exactly the same.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. She also has one daughter, Cordelia.

Why do we make the decisions we do? Purely by accident, she meets Bennett O’Reilly, a clumsily dressed, completely unfashionable biologist. At Hi-Tek, management is always current on the newest employee engagement trend. I kept an eye out for it this time, and it pops up repeatedly, as does a fascinating minor theme related to the “Toads and Diamonds” fairy tale that I had totally forgotten. This is the same Management that conducts all-staff meetings to introduce new management “strategies,” hand out revised funding allocation forms, and conduct sensitivity exercises bellsether cause employees to sneak out of the staff room to hide in the nearest rest room.

I was a little aillis in getting the style of humor, but once I got into the style, I was laughing and smiling all the way through the book. What endeared the story for me, was how often I could say, “I know what she means”. That was why they bought white bucks and pedal pushers and bikinis. Why target my much more reasonable Fresca?

Prior to picking this up, I’d read and greatly enjoyed two of Willis’ other books: Re-read in December A lot of this humor is actually pretty mean-spirited, based as it is around “our heroes are right and everyone else is wrong and stupid.

The two bellwethre characters fussing over sheep in the name of science provided far more laughs than attempts to dehumanize young people for the sake of a failed laugh.

Sandra’s musings on trends make for fun micro-histories, Flip’s disastrous “assistance” makes for good comedy, and Willis does a nice job building a brightly-colored world and giving beklwether a Sandra’s -eye view of it as a place full of ebbing and flowing cultural obsessions with connke, books, angels, foods, and even breeds of cattle.
